Matthew Rodger Helton, A.K.A. Griz, was born in Detroit, MI on December 12, 1972. He was a longtime resident of Madison Heights and passed away at his home Wednesday, September 2, 2020.
Matt was a longtime football coach. He started coaching with the Madison Heights Wolverines. He then moved on to coach at Madison High School, which is also the high school he graduated from. His teams became part of his family. The players were like his kids.
Matt inherited the family knowledge of construction. Learning hands on working with his grandfather and uncle. Matt was proud to start his own company “Braxton Built.”
His love for riding started young as he learned to ride in the woods at Caseville near the family cottage. He moved from dirt bikes to Harleys. Riding brought Matt the freedom he craved. He found many beloved brothers during his many journeys.
He is preceded in death by his parents Marion Roger Helton and Nancy Braxton (Helton) and grandparents George and Gladys Braxton, and Nancy Boston.
He is survived by daughters Sophia Ventimiglia and Tegan Beaman, sister Heather Crews (Anthony), nephews Matthew and Ryan, and nieces Jasmine, Savanna, and Jewell. As well as a multitude of beloved Family and Friends.
Matt touched so many lives because he always lived larger than life. R.I.P. Griz-You will never be forgotten!
