Deacon Larry Arcell Bland
April 17, 1952 – July 20, 2025

Deacon Larry Arcell Bland was born on April 17, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Noah and Josephine Bland. Raised in Highland Park, he was the second of six children and grew up in a loving, faith-filled home. Larry excelled in academics, music, and athletics. He graduated from Highland Park High in 1971 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Ferris State University, where he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

In 1996, he married his beloved wife, Karen Lewis. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Lauren, his greatest joy. A grill master and family man, Larry brought people together through laughter, prayer, and food.

Professionally, Larry worked in management and human services, serving youth at Oakland County’s Children’s Village. He later founded Bland and Associates and became a Regional Vice President at Primerica Financial Services, helping families receive over $10 million in life insurance benefits.

A devoted servant of Christ, Larry held leadership roles in COGIC at every level. He was appointed Vice President of Financial Literacy for COGIC Urban Initiatives in 2021. He passed peacefully on July 20, 2025, leaving a legacy of faith, service, and love. He will be deeply missed.
