Bobbie Armstead Obituary

Bobbie Fae Hayter was born on January 23, 1929 in Bullard, Texas to the late P.J. and Mattie Hayter. She was the second youngest of eleven children, all who preceded her in death.   With her mother and sisters, Bobbie relocated to Michigan.  She was educated in the Detroit Public School System.

Bobbie accepted Christ as a teenager and became a member of Northwest Church of God in Christ where she was a faithful servant for over 66 years. She served on the Mother Board and was President of the Young Women’s Christian Council (YWCC).  Bishop Moore finally allowed to step down after many years of service.

Bobbie married Alvin B. Armstead on January 15, 1949, and to that union they had three daughters. They were married for 48 years until his death in November of 1997.

Bobbie worked many jobs in her lifetime.  She was best known for her master skills as a seamstress.  She utilized her skills working as an assistant to the owner of Morris Sklare Drapery company.

Bobbie's love of sewing produced many beautiful clothes for her children and herself.  She was also known for her superb cooking and baking skills.  She could be found in the church kitchen many Sundays.  Bobbie would cater meals for family, friends and neighbors and her legendary cakes and homemade rolls was a favorite to all.   She was a part of the kitchen staff and also volunteered for the Lorraine Seals Food Pantry.

She relished in planning and attending family reunions and was diligent in bringing the extended family together as often as she could. Bobbie also was a member of the Royal Travelers travel club with some of her friends and church members.

Bobbie was a faithful servant of the Lord until the end.  The day before she died, she was talking to her mom.  On the day of her transition, she was found on her knees, as if in prayer.  She departed her earthly body August 10, 2020.
